McDonald's funds Colchester Carnival clean

A FAST food chain will ensure the town is spick and span after this year's Colchester Carnival.

Now McDonald's, which promotes good neighbour and litter policies, is paying for the Colchester Council-led clean-up.

Although entries for this year's carnival and parade have passed, applications for grants are still being taken.

McDonald's has been a keen advocate of keeping Colchester's streets clean.

All profits will go to a carnival fund, which Colchester Round Table will distribute to community groups.

With thousands expected to turn out for the annual celebrations, litter and waste are a serious concern.

Highlights of this year's carnival include a Nations of the World parade, giant sea puppets and a world record attempt for the most people playing hopscotch at one time.

Upper Castle Park will host a stage for carnival shows and musical acts will take to the bandstand throughout the day.

The carnival parade can make its way through the town between 4pm and 6pm on June 30.

Organisers, Colchester Round Table and Ladies' Circle, have promised it will be bigger than ever and have lined up a host of acts.

The event is sponsored by Weston Homes and supported by the Gazette.

Cas Morehen, franchisee for Colchester's three McDonald's branches, said: "Having lived in Colchester for many years, it is great to see the carnival back as a celebration of the town.

In 2011, it ran a poster competition to help promote use of litter bins in the High Street. ".

Family attractions take place in Lower Park, including a Colchester United skills workshops, face painting and rides.
