Beaufort cleaning woman facing larceny, drug charges

A Beaufort woman is accused of stealing from her clients.

Whitley is in the Carteret County Jail under a $7,500 bond.

Cleaning companies take their own precautions when hiring maids.

"There are plenty of cleaning ladies out there who are legitimate," said Captain Jason Wank of the Carteret County Sheriffs Office. She also pays $600 on business insurance.

Deputies say that Whitley has prior convictions for stealing from clients.

"If there's any breakage, any theft, which God forbid there is not, or if someone is injured, on the job, it's all covered," said Gilkey.
