Dubai to begin clean-up drive after Creek boat fire

The Dubai Municipality is preparing to start clean-up operations after a fire ravaged a cargo boat at the Dubai Creek.

The civic body said that it was waiving off the fee as it intended to to help the businessmen who lost a lot when the unfortunate accident happened.

"We will commence the cleaning as we get papers from the Civil Defense and the Dubai Police.

The Dubai Municipality had waived the fee for transporting the debris of two cargo vessels that caught fire on the Dubai Creek in February.

The two dhows that had caught fire on the Deira side of the Creek and were moved towards the Al Seef side in Bur Dubai.

The fire, which broke at about 4pm on Sunday, was brought under control by midnight and the crew had managed to escape unharmed.

He said that cleaning equipment, including trucks, shovels and tanks, are ready at the site.

BhaktiSagar, the vessel, used to regularly run between Dubai and Gujrat.

For the cleaning operations, the authorities had deployed tanks, with a capacity of 10,000 gallons to draw water accumulated inside the vessels.
