Judge orders NCR to resume cleaning up Fox River
A federal judge's ruling has opened the door to full-scale cleanup of a Wisconsin river polluted by toxins from a bygone papermaking era. NCR and Appleton Papers Inc. Judge William Griesbach says the harm caused by the toxic chemicals cannot reasonably be divided among all of the paper companies likely responsible for discharging them. He ordered NCR to begin running at least three dredges 24 hours a day. The decision is expected to jump-start a costly dredging process there. NCR did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Griesbach says NCR could try to force other companies to contribute. |
