Chimney Cleaning Scam Hits Homes In Area
On Monday, March 5, police investigated a jewelry theft from a home in the unit block of Northwood Road. According to the statement, the homeowner reported that on Feb. 29, an unknown man called the homeowner offering to come to your property and clean the chimney. According to the statement, the homeowner was told that the chimney would be cleaned for $40. On Monday, police said a white male arrived at your house around 12 p.m. to clean the chimney. While at your house, the man asked to use the bathroom. According to police, the homeowner thought it was strange how long the man took in the bathroom. When the subject told the homeowner the task was done, the homeowner paid $40 and the man left. Shortly after the man left the home, the homeowner checked his master bedroom and discovered the drawer to his night stand was ajar, according to police. Upon checking the night stand, the homeowner found three rings missing, according to the statement. "Our investigation has determined that the subjects are using the company name ProEnergy–Maintenance out of New York State. They have been driving white work vans with New York license plates and the company name on the passenger doors of the vans," stated Lt. Chris Lunn in the police statement. Springfield Township Police have also investigated at least two similar thefts by subjects who were "cleaning" the chimney, according to Lunn. Police are asking any residents who have been contacted about chimney cleaning services by this company to call 911 and report it to an officer. In addition, if anyone sees one of their trucks in your neighborhood, call 911 on the spot so the police department can investigate. |
