WILLIAMSON - "We were on pins and needles last Friday evening when we thought Mingo County was going to be hit by the tornado," said Mingo County Commissioner David Baisden.

"We wanted to help in any way possible, so the commissioners started making enquiries as to what supplies were most required in the Wayne County community of Dunlow," said Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney C.

The donated items consisted of brooms and mops, bleach, water, an assortment of non-perishable food, paper items, toiletries and personal hygiene items, buckets, hammers, gloves, baby items, shovels, cleaning supplies, plastic storage totes and plastic sheeting.

"We wanted to assist in some way, and after speaking to Jenna Gannaway from the Donald Taylor Community Center in Matewan, who is heading up fundraisers and donate drives to that area, we felt that this would be the best way to do it.

"We banned together and took up donations, and we also had a few items left from the last flood that affected our area.

"The Delbarton Kiwanis gave us a monetary donation to purchase items that were needed.

"You never know when you're going to be the one on the needing end of a situation like this, our county may have quite easily been affected by the tornado," said Sparks. "Wayne County has yet to be declared a disaster area, so any assistance the residents that were affected are receiving is minimal.

The names of local residents who sent items to the tornado victims in Wayne County, excluding those already listed, include Martina Porter, Steve Stokes, Mickey Stanley, Patricia Dear, Fred Cisco, Nathan Hatfield, Linda Hensley, Patty Star and Thelma Tackett.

"It's very clear now, that we're not.
