Don't be tricked by rogue roof cleaners

Don't be tricked by rogue roof cleaners

A WARNING about rogue roof cleaning services has been issued by Warwickshire County Council's Trading Standards Service amid concerns they are conning residents into having unnecessary work carried out.

A county council spokesman said: "They say that cleaning moss and lichen from roof tiles has energy saving benefits and that by using fungicidal washes it will not grow back again.

The doorstep callers convince residents that moss and lichen on roof tiles is a problem and that the cost of a whole new roof would be far more expensive than having it cleaned.

"These claims are largely unsubstantiated and independent experts say that lichen, mould and similar growths, although unsightly, are not generally detrimental to the longevity of a roof tile.
